Additive manufacturing allows the production of components, which are adapted precisely to the requirements. Lighter and at the same time more capable components out of aggressive alloys are of increasing demand in small lots. The layer thicknesses in the "direct metal laser sintering" are meanwhile so low, that even the finest structures can be produced directly from the 3D CAD data without the use of any tools. To do this the finest metal powders are needed.

In the manufacture of the metal powders the molten alloy is pressed through a nozzle under high pressure and cooled down rapidly. Depending on the pressure and the nozzle diameter various grain sizes can be produced.
