Carbon Black is used in the tyre industry. It changes the properties like hardness and UV-durability. Carbon Black is produced by burning and quenching feedstock oil at temperatures up to 2,200 °C (4,000 °F) and flow speed close to the speed of sound in a reactor.

The heat shield in those reactors is made out of zirconia in various shapes.
